I am humored by J.K. Rowlings recent announcement of Dumbledore's homosexuality. Why ? Because some of the reactions people have to this information. But first, my reaction: (yes it is a list)
He's a fictional character. Even if he was real, he would've been dead for over 10 years. So, it's really unneccesary information.
It was an effective means to draw attention back to Harry Potter in a post Deathly Hallows world.
His attraction to Grindlewald bothers me. Not so much his homosexuality. It's like Harry having a thing for Voldemort... It's squicky cuz he's EEEEEEEEEEEVIL! (Although, if Voldemort wore his suit from Movie 5 more often...;) )
It kills all of the McGonagoll/Dumbledore shippers dreams.
Now other people's Reactions...
I am not going to document these although I have a strange desire to give you all footnotes:
By creating Dumbledore, a highly respected character, from one of the largest franchises in recent history as a homosexual, J.K. Rowling has gone a long way towards making homosexuality more accepted.
Magical Day for Gays as Dumbledore is Outed
“It is great that JK Rowling wants to make her books inclusive of gay people,” said Peter Tatchell, the gay-rights activist. “My disappointment is that she did not make it more explicit. Maybe she feared a hostile reaction.”
It's a series of books, that while some may not think are for kids, are marketed towards kids... Sexuality shouldn't play that large of a role in it. <- My reaction to the above comment.

i agree for the most part. It was totally unnecessary for us to tell us being that he has been dead for quite a while.
people do need to calm themselves because after all he is a effing fictional character.
about the whole dumbledore/grindelwald thing, i think he might have fallen in love with him before he became a prat... but again who cares since it doesn't really apply to Harry's story overall. Nor do I think harry wanted to know about Dumbledore's sexual escapades.
I think that by revealing the nature of Dumbledore's sexuality we were robbed of some of his mystery.
To the man who said something about not being more explicit about it... does he remember where to find the books... in the children section lol.
either way, this is Harry's story, not Dumbledore's and as much as i don't mind that he's gay, it wasn't necessary info.
btw, why the heck didn't you get a livejournal instead of a blogger? i would comment more frequently if you did. lol
Because Blogger is so much cooler, Denise...LOL
