Its been a pretty emotional month over here in Stacey-land.
I've had amazing days of amazingness, and some really sucky days. But I think that I can concretely say that there has been much learned out of the experiences of the last month.

The next 6 weeks are going to be extremely busy. I am both looking forward to finishing my degree, but am very sad to be leaving my beloved DH.

There is just so much going on that I can't figure out what to say here, so that can be it for now...

Lenin's Butt Bombed

Just a few days ago a bomb went off in my beloved St. Petersburg. I know I have a picture of the statue from my trip and at one point was at Finland Station where Lenin gave his famous Speech after his return from exile. I am really glad that no one was hurt and that I was not there when the bomb went off. I probably wouldn't love St. Petersburg as much if I had been there when a bomb exploded...

Lenin's statue was left with a gaping hole
One of Russia's most famous statues of Vladimir Lenin has been bombed, leaving the Bolshevik revolutionary with a gaping hole in his rear.

The bronze statue, in the city of St Petersburg, was badly damaged before dawn on Wednesday, when the blast blew a hole in Lenin's coat.

No-one was hurt in the attack, the motive for which was unknown.

The statue, outside the Finland Station, marks the Bolshevik leader's return from exile in April 1917.

"Today at 0430 [0030 GMT] there was an explosion at the Lenin monument at the Finland Station in the city centre," a spokesman for the Saint Petersburg branch of the Russian emergency situations ministry told the AFP news agency.

"As a result of the explosion a crater of 80-100cm [31-39in] appeared on the monument," he added.

Lenin gave a speech at the railway station after his return from exile.

Later that year he would lead the revolution that overthrew the government and would take the Communists to power for more than 70 years.

St Petersburg was the cradle of the Russian Revolution and was renamed Leningrad after Lenin's death in 1924.

Lenin's embalmed body remains on display in a mausoleum in Moscow.

Art of Two Germanys/Cold War Cultures-LACMA 04/02/2009

On Thursday I went to LACMA with my friend Varian



to see "Art of Two Germanys/Cold War Cultures"


When we got there we couldn't find the entrance! It was hiding behind these:



Unfortunately, the security guards there didn't seem to like Varian, or people in general really. So Varian had to take all of his pictures all incognito-like. This is my favorite of the ones he took inside:



So, most of the pictures I am about to post are from other websites. But I wanted to show some of my favorite pieces from the exhibit.

This was a wooden house with potatos nailed to it. I don't really know why.


I liked this picture:



The photos on the wall to the right are terrorists. Before I knew that, I said to Varian, that wall makes me feel like I am in My Terrorism Class. I would say I am a stereotyper, but in this case it was true!



We think these are shoes from the concetration camps because the other art in the room was about facism and nazis, but we aren't sure:



I told Varian that this was his favorite: It is a lot of black paint with some other colors mixed in. I really liked it too.



But this was my favorite of the whole exhibition. It has enough Pop art to feed my sensibilities, and a little sickle action to feed my "Commie Love"

"Cold War Cultures" is a groundbreaking effort to view post-war German art as a whole, integrated within a specific national context. The art was both depressing and hopeful, I really liked it.

10 Things I hate About You...

(well, not really)

How about 10 foods I hate instead?


1. Seafood: Fish Are Friends NOT Food! I honestly don't mind the flavor of most seafood, it is totally a textural thing for me. I can and do eat popcorn shrimp, fried clams, and the occassional tuna sandwich. Because those foods don't have the textural problem that gets me every time. However, Crab and Lobster are Nos at all times. I don't like the taste or texture.

2. Brussels Sprouts: I'll eat them if I have to, but if I have a choice in the matter they are avoided.

3. Lima Beans: Weird texture and a funky flavor. I just say no.

4. Black Coffee: I barely like coffee when it is filled with milk and sugar, so drinking it black is a no no.

5. Papaya: It smells weird and every time I drink papaya juice, I get sick.

6. Veal: I was debating its inclusion on this list, becaue I know I've eaten it before in a dish called city-chicken, and I like that a lot. But I feel bad enough eating meat without the poor animal being tortured prior to its death. So I don't eat veal on principle. (my apologies to those reading this while trying to eat)

7. Squash: I don't mind the flavor, it's the texture again with the squash. I don't mind fried zucchini or zucchini casserole, but the slimy, squishy thing just doesn't work for me.

8. Eggs: But again not really. I like them sometimes, made certain ways. This list is rubbish. I like deviled eggs, and even the occasional egg salad sandwich or fried egg. But for the most part, I avoid them unless I am craving them.

9. Liver: I've eaten it, but I don't like it. In fact I don't like any organ meats, they are too gamey tasting... Blech...

10.Spam: I just don't like the texture, the flavor, or the thought of what is in it.
