plans for turkey day and nuevo medications

Last week I had called the doc about the fact that my antibiotic was making me feel crappy, so we reduced my diabetes meds until I finished the antibiotic and I magically felt better (science works!) But once I re-upped the diabetes meds after finishing the antibiotic I started feeling crappy again. That combined with my bizarrely increasing blood sugar readings led me to returning to the doctor's office today.

Well, it appears that my body just doesn't want to get along with that medication. So we are trying a different version of the medicine in hopes that my body tolerates it better. The blood sugar reading were going up because I had finished the honeymoon period of first starting the meds (in the beginning, your body is so happy to have some help that it responds extra well, but after that period ends it is still working, just not quite as reactive), he is really happy with the majority of my readings and says we'll get it down to the happiest numbers. I found out that my numbers are higher in the morning, (which made absolutely no sense to me)  because that is just how my metabolism works. I was getting frustrated over nothing. Most of all, I need to stop being so hard on myself.

Yesterday, I let my frustrations get the better of me and made some really bad decisions of the dietary variety. My numbers were worse today because of it, but I got on track today, and with the medication changes I am looking forward to better numbers.

I am really excited for tomorrow. I am going to wake up and watch the parade. I love watching the parade, but haven't been able to for several years because I didn't have a tv. I am going to try to make a more diabetic friendly version of my famous crepes for breakfast and best of all? I have no need to go to work! I have been able to leave early the last couple of days for appointments and although I should have been getting stuff today, I took a much needed nap.

I am going to throw together a crust-less sugar free pumpkin pie. It is an interesting idea that I am going to try.

Later, I am going to my friend/coworkers house to have Thanksgiving lunch with her and her mom. It should be a lot of fun.She is going to attempt to teach me about football so that I can fit in with the natives hahahaha. Seriously, everyone up here is obsessed with football.

I also grabbed stuff for an easy and light dinner. Some yummy sicilian olives, goat cheese and other munchie type things. One of my favorite parts of the holidays while growing up were grandma's pre dinner snacks, and I thought this was a great way to remember her on the holiday and its super low carb for the most part too!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Take a moment tomorrow amongst all the yummy food and family celebrating to reflect on the stuff you are grateful for. As hard as life can get, we are still so fortunate.
